Experts fear Grenfell Tower tragedy

Questions have arisen concerning the safety of high-rise buildings in Australia, following the United Kingdom’s Grenfell Tower tragedy.

 Although Australia is considered to have tough regulations, qualifications for those who conduct checks are not necessary, leading to calls for architects, developers, building surveyors, fire engineers and others to be held more accountable.
Panels with combustible polyethylene cores have been used in Australia, as evidenced by Melbourne’s Lacrosse apartment complex fire in 2014.
